CORE PRINCIPLES AND GOALS OF OUR 2012 CAMPAIGN: Developing a rich media presentation and cross-platform of story, text, compendium of research and videos which teaches those wishing to overturn the effect of Citizen's United vs. FEC to use the 9th Amendment, the 10th Amendment and the Doctrine of Interposition to nullify the effect of the decision.
No other Supreme Court decision has affected the public's unalienable rights described in the Declaration of Independence than Citizen's United vs. FEC (2010). One cannot turnaround on the Internet without running into the effects of this decision. It asserts that "corporations" have the same "fundamental rights" as human beings and specifically Freedom of Speech in the 1st Amendment. Ruling that corporate contributions in unlimited amounts to political campaigns without accountability not only effectively nullifies the votes of human beings; it also threatens what corporations will not be required to reveal in foods, supplements and even pharmaceutical labeling previously regulated by laws passed by the US Congress.
The Problem and Why this Campaign is so Important: Those impacted and declaring opposition to the Citizen's United decision have resorted to collective responses:
1. Proposing that a 28th Amendment to the Constitution be drafted and passed into law. Several groups are gathering support for this effort, however many advocates for this approach are not positive the effort will gather enough support and even if it does, they claim the end result will not bring about a result where corporations are stripped of "personhood."
2. Proposing that non-binding resolutions be drafted and passed by municipalities and states. Los Angeles, New York City and other municipalities are engaged in getting the word out in this manner; however, the non-binding natures of these resolutions is advisory only.
